“It takes great courage and self-assurance to filk the Bard Elder!”

The feast was set with fish and meat, and full of all that is good to eat.
She had dreamed of nights like this, This glorious feast, not to be missed.
She spied him at the table’s head, a Knight of the Kingdom, and quite well-bred,
Strong and handsome, but not well-fed, She pledged there and then that they would wed.

It’s hard to love a knight these days,
Bound by honor to wait and pray,
And maybe to woo along the way,
It’s hard to love a knight.

She welcomed him home with a smile and a kiss, Dared not to show him how he’d been missed.
She sat by his side all while he slept, and never made a sound when she wept.
At dawn they woke to the sounding horn, Wearily rising to greet the morn.
He donned his armor, all battered and worn, She waved goodbye, her heart was torn.

It’s hard to love a knight these days,
Bound by honor to wait and pray,
And maybe to sleep along the way,
It’s hard to love a knight.

He dazzled with his golden hair, and all she could do was sit and stare.
His scent was sweeter than any sold, The feel of his lips, it made her bold.
He laid her down upon the bed, Upon her bosom he laid his head,
Sweet words he whispered into her ear, She knew there was nothing to fear.
Then, suddenly, he gave a jolt, Ran to the door and unlocked the bolt,
And once again she could have sworn, He blamed it on his blasted horn!

It’s hard to love a knight these days,
Bound by honor to wait and pray,
And maybe to love along the way,
It’s hard to love a knight.
She’s just trying to live along the way,
It’s hard to love a knight!
